About Stanley Crop Service
Stanley Crop Service was originally built in 1962 by Mr. Dick Cecil as a second location for Cecil Farm Supply. The first location was in Sorgho, Kentucky and the business no longer exists.
The Stanley, Kentucky assets of Cecil Farm Supply were acquired by Smith-Douglass Fertilizer in 1967. Smith-Douglass was a large chain of crop service stores offering fertilizer, seed and crop protection chemicals located throughout the eastern and southern United States.
The original fertilizer storage building and bagging facility were destroyed by fire in 1973.
Rebuilt immediately, the business continued as a Smith-Douglass Crop Service until 1980 when all of the assets of Smith-Douglass located in Kentucky were purchased by Miles Farm Supply in Owensboro. Stanley Crop Service was then immediately sold to Kenneth Saalwaechter, who had been General Manager of the business from its initial construction through Cecil Farm Supply and Smith-Douglass.
In the late summer of 1985 Mr. Saalwaechter sold Stanley Crop Service to Marty Mitchell who owned and managed the business for the next 20 years.
In 2005, Monty Parrish and Miles Farm Supply formed a partnership to purchase Stanley Crop Service from Mr. Mitchell and the business remained under this ownership until November 16, 2010 when Mr. Parrish purchased the other half of the partnership and became sole owner.
